Queen’s Club Could See Women’s Tennis Introduced in 2025, WTA Open to Exploring Options

Queen’s Club, known for hosting prestigious men’s tennis events, could potentially see women’s tennis being played on the site as early as 2025. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is open to exploring options to introduce a new WTA 500 event at the historic venue in the lead up to Wimbledon.

If plans come to fruition, a WTA 500 tournament could be scheduled the week after the French Open, with the men’s event taking place the following week. This move would require some reshuffling of the existing WTA events, with Nottingham likely to be moved to accommodate Queen’s Club and Birmingham possibly being removed from the calendar.

The last time women’s tennis was played at Queen’s Club was in 1973 when Olga Morozova was crowned the champion. The potential return of top women’s players to the west London club has sparked some controversy, especially regarding the condition of the grass courts. However, LTA chief executive Scott Lloyd is confident in the capabilities of the courts to sustain professional-level tennis for two weeks.

The WTA has expressed its openness to new tournaments to strengthen the future of women’s tennis. With over 80 tournaments a year, including the US Open, exclusively live on Sky Sports Tennis, fans will have ample opportunities to watch their favorite players in action. The new Sky Sports Tennis channel will provide comprehensive coverage of both the ATP and WTA Tours, ensuring tennis content is available all day, every day for fans in the UK and Ireland.

As discussions and preparations continue for the potential introduction of women’s tennis at Queen’s Club, tennis enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting future for the sport on both the men’s and women’s sides. Stay tuned for updates on the 2025 calendar and how to catch all the action on Sky Sports Tennis.
