Princeton Women’s Tennis Team Secures First Ivy League Win in Close Match Against Columbia

In a thrilling matchup, the No. 52 women’s tennis team from Princeton University secured their first Ivy League win of the season with a narrow 4-3 victory over the No. 44 Columbia Lions. The Tigers, with an overall record of 11-6, showed great resilience and determination throughout the match to come out on top.

The doubles matches set the tone for the day, with Princeton’s first-year player Alice Ferlito and senior Neha Velaga leading the charge with a quick 6-3 victory over their Columbia opponents. Despite facing tough competition in the other doubles matches, the Tigers managed to secure the crucial doubles point, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The singles matches were equally intense, with each player showcasing their skills and fighting spirit. Sophomore Eva Elbaz and junior Leena Bennetto both battled hard in their matches, with Bennetto eventually coming out on top to tie the overall score at 2-2.

The match ultimately came down to the #3 singles player Maia Sung, who faced off against her Columbia opponent in a tight contest. Sung’s aggressive play style and determination paid off as she secured the winning point for the Tigers, clinching the victory with a 6-4, 7-5 scoreline.
