Bopanna and Ebden Face Defeat in Men’s Doubles at Monte Carlo Masters, Nagal’s Match Suspended Due to Rain

In a disappointing turn of events, India’s Rohan Bopanna and his partner Matthew Ebden faced defeat in their round of 16 men’s doubles match at the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday. The duo was unable to find their rhythm early on, falling behind quickly in the first set against Mate Pavic of Croatia and Marcelo Arévalo of El Salvador. Despite showing signs of improvement in the second set, they were ultimately defeated with a score of 3-6, 6-7 (6-8).

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles competition, Sumit Nagal found himself trailing against seventh-seeded Holger Rune of Denmark when rain interrupted their second-round match. Nagal, who had been in excellent form leading up to the tournament, lost the first set 3-6 and was behind 1-2 before the suspension.

Despite the setback, Nagal had made history by becoming the first Indian to win a main draw match at the Monte Carlo Masters. He defeated World No. 38 Matteo Arnaldi in the first round after coming through the qualifiers. With a recent career-high ranking of No. 93, Nagal has now joined the ranks of Vijay Amritraj and Ramesh Krishnan as the third Indian to participate in the main draw at Monaco.

Although Bopanna and Ebden may have faced defeat, Nagal’s impressive performance has given Indian tennis fans something to cheer about. As the tournament continues, all eyes will be on Nagal as he looks to make further strides in his career on the clay courts of Monte Carlo.
