Negaunee Miners Boys Tennis Team Prepares for Success in 2024

The Negaunee Miners Boys Tennis team is gearing up for the 2024 season with high hopes of continuing their winning streak. Despite losing seven seniors from last year’s lineup, head coach Kyle Saari is confident in the team’s ability to overcome the challenge of integrating new faces into the mix.

“We’ve had groups capable of overcoming that in the past,” said Saari. “The biggest message to our kids so far is that they need to step up. We have some good senior leadership from players like James Thomson, who has been instrumental in bridging the gap for our younger and inexperienced players.”

Thomson echoed Saari’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of stepping up and embracing the opportunity to win. With a clean slate for the new season, the team is focused on improving their fundamentals and mental game to achieve success on the court.

As they prepare for their season opener on April 19, the Miners are eager to see how their new lineup will perform in a five-team doubles match hosted by Marquette. With a strong core of returning singles players and a focus on mental toughness, the team is poised to make a run for another conference championship and U.P. Division 1 title.

“We’re excited to see people step up and answer the bell with an opportunity at hand,” said Saari. “In spring sports in the U.P., you have no time to be young at all. It comes down to who can step up and who’s mentally tough enough to fill those positions.”
