Novak Djokovic Wins 2024 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award
The 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards, often dubbed as the ‘Athletes’ Awards’, took place at the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, honoring the best in the world of sports. Among the star-studded nominees, Novak Djokovic emerged as the Sportsman of the Year, surpassing the likes of Noah Lyles, Mondo Duplantis, Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi, and Max Verstappen.
Djokovic’s exceptional year saw him clinch his 24th Grand Slam singles title at the US Open, breaking records and solidifying his status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Despite missing out on a calendar year Grand Slam, the Serbian superstar’s achievements were enough to earn him the prestigious Laureus award for the fifth time in his career.
On the other hand, Noah Lyles, a rising star in the world of track and field, had an outstanding year as well. With six World Championship titles, four Diamond League Final victories, and a remarkable performance at the 2023 World Championships, Lyles proved his mettle on the track. However, his impressive resume was not enough to edge out Djokovic for the top honor.
While Lyles’ exceptional track record in 2023 garnered him accolades and recognition, it was Djokovic’s dominance in the world of tennis that ultimately earned him the title of Sportsman of the Year. The Serbian star’s remarkable achievements and record-breaking performances throughout the year solidified his place in history and cemented his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the world of sports.
