Exciting Plans for Padel Courts at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on the Isle of Wight

The latest sports craze, Padel, could soon be making its way to the Isle of Wight as the Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club plans to invest in creating the Island’s first two all-weather Padel courts. Padel, a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, has gained popularity among celebrities and professional athletes worldwide.

The club is looking to secure funding of around £150,000 from various sources including Sports England, the Lawn Tennis Association, and club funds to make this project a reality. The addition of Padel courts is seen as a way to attract new members and provide a social hub for the community.

Not only will the Padel courts benefit the club financially, but they could also serve as a transition sport for older players who may find traditional tennis too strenuous. Additionally, the increased revenue from Padel could help the club move forward with plans to build the Island’s first indoor purpose-built tennis facility, which was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The club believes that the new courts will not only enhance the health and wellbeing of its members but also attract new players to the sport. The proposed courts, which will be 20m long by 10m wide, will be equipped with integrated floodlights to allow for evening play.

Those interested in viewing the plans for the Padel courts can do so on the council’s planning register, with a public consultation running until April 26, 2024. The club is hopeful that this investment will not only benefit its current members but also contribute to the overall growth and development of sports on the Isle of Wight.
