Monroe and Airport Tennis Match Moves Indoors for Season Opener

Monroe and Airport Tennis Teams Finally Hit the Court

After a long wait, the Monroe and Airport high school tennis teams were finally able to hit the court for their first match of the season. Due to a questionable weather forecast, the coaches made a quick decision to move the match indoors to the Monroe YMCA.

In the end, Monroe came out on top with a dominant 7-1 win. With 10 seniors in their starting lineup, Monroe had a significant advantage over Airport, who had five freshmen and a sophomore starting.

Monroe coach Stephen Reau expressed his team’s excitement to finally be able to play, stating, “The girls are just happy to get out there and play.” He credited their experience from previous years for their success in the match.

On the other hand, Airport coach Jerry Escheck was proud of his young team’s performance, noting that many of them were playing their first match. Despite the loss, he saw a lot of potential in his players and commended their effort and willingness to learn.

The singles matches were dominated by Monroe, with players like Marisa Rostash, Abella Hellenburg, Melanie Zanger, and Allie Wells securing wins. Airport managed to earn a point in the doubles matches with Sophie Bucki and Skylar Hicks coming out on top.

Overall, both teams were just happy to be back on the court and competing. With the first match of the season under their belts, they are looking forward to a successful season ahead.
