Sofia Begal: A Good Sport On and Off the Court

Sofia Begal, a rising tennis star and sophomore at Kent Denver School, is not only making a name for herself on the court but also off the court with her incredible philanthropic efforts. Begal, who is already an all-state player and a doubles state champion, has founded a nonprofit charitable foundation called Advantage Mozambique to help underprivileged kids in Mozambique pursue their tennis dreams and education in the United States.

In a recent interview with Denver7, Begal shared the inspiration behind Advantage Mozambique, citing her family friend Chris Buck, a doctor in Mozambique, as a driving force behind the foundation. Together, they have created a platform to provide young kids in Mozambique with the opportunity to learn and play tennis, as well as support promising athletes in securing partial scholarships to study and play tennis in the US.

Thanks to the efforts of Advantage Mozambique, two talented tennis players, Jaime Sigauque and Ana Vassilis, have been able to thrive at Barton Community College in Kansas. Begal expressed her excitement for the future of the foundation, emphasizing the importance of expanding their reach to support more athletes and provide opportunities for young kids in Mozambique to access the sport of tennis.

With the support of her family and friends, Begal is determined to make a positive impact through Advantage Mozambique. She plans to involve more people in fundraising efforts, such as organizing tennis tournaments, to raise awareness and support for the foundation.
