Kelso Orchard Tennis Club Wins Tennis Scotland’s Club of the Year Award

Kelso Orchard Tennis Club has emerged victorious as Tennis Scotland’s Club of the Year, beating out Dunblane Sports Club, where tennis superstar Andy Murray got his start. The club was recognized for its outstanding work with Borderers of all ages, from schoolchildren to care home residents, in 2023.

Club treasurer Kate Bull expressed her gratitude, stating, “We’re really passionate about getting into the community and we’ve been in care homes and making tennis available for tots – it’s about trying to give everyone the chance to play tennis for free. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped us along the way.”

The prestigious Tennis Scotland Awards 2024, hosted by television presenter Rhona McLeod, took place at Stirling Court Hotel, where Kelso Orchard Tennis Club was honored for its impressive achievements. The club saw an increase in junior membership through school programs and ‘come-and-try’ festivals, as well as offering tots’ tennis at the clubhouse. Additionally, the club developed links with care homes to hold walking sessions, increasing participation among older generations.

Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland chief executive, congratulated Kelso Orchard Tennis Club, stating, “We want to offer our thanks to Kelso Orchard and all the individuals and organizations who work tirelessly to further the growth and development of tennis in Scotland. With an all-time high club membership, increasing participation, and record entries at competitions, we have real momentum in Scottish tennis.”

The club will now move on to compete for the British title at the LTA British Awards later this year. Tennis fans can look forward to seeing Kelso Orchard Tennis Club continue to make waves in the tennis community as they strive for further success.
