Kelso Orchard Tennis Club Wins Tennis Scotland’s Club of the Year Award
Kelso Orchard Tennis Club has emerged victorious as Tennis Scotland’s Club of the Year, beating out Dunblane Sports Club, where tennis legend Andy Murray got his start. The club was recognized for its outstanding work with Borderers of all ages, from schoolchildren to care home residents.
Treasurer Kate Bull expressed the club’s passion for community involvement, stating, “We’re really passionate about getting into the community and we’ve been in care homes and making tennis available for tots – it’s about trying to give everyone the chance to play tennis for free. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped us along the way.”
The prestigious Tennis Scotland Awards 2024, hosted by television presenter Rhona McLeod, saw Kelso Orchard Tennis Club honored for its impressive achievements in 2023. The club increased its junior membership through school programs and ‘come-and-try’ festivals, while also offering tots’ tennis at the clubhouse. Additionally, the club developed links with care homes to hold walking sessions, promoting participation among older generations.
Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland chief executive, congratulated Kelso Orchard Tennis Club on their well-deserved win, highlighting their dedication to the growth and development of tennis in Scotland. With record entries at competitions and a surge in club membership, Scottish tennis is experiencing a period of great momentum.
As the club now moves on to compete for the British title at the LTA British Awards, Tennis Scotland wishes them the best of luck. The success of Kelso Orchard Tennis Club serves as a testament to the hard work and commitment of individuals and organizations driving the sport forward in Scotland.
