Montoursville Tennis Sweeps Williamsport Despite Missing Top Player
Montoursville High School’s tennis team showcased their depth and resilience in a dominant 5-0 victory over Williamsport on Thursday. Despite missing their top player, Wyatt Fry, the Warriors were able to secure the win with impressive performances from their doubles teams and singles players.
In the absence of Fry, senior James Kehrer stepped up to the challenge at singles court one. Facing off against Williamsport’s Shreshth Singh, Kehrer initially struggled but showed great determination and skill to turn the match around. After dropping the first set 2-6, Kehrer fought back to win the second set 6-3 and ultimately clinched the victory in a tiebreaker, displaying excellent ball placement and mental fortitude.
Meanwhile, sophomore Teli Bobotas had a strong showing at singles court two, defeating Spencer Sponhouse in a three-set battle. Bobotas dominated the first set 6-1, but Sponhouse rallied to take the second set. In the decisive third set, Bobotas maintained his composure and secured the win to remain undefeated this season.
Coach Shawn Gardner praised both Kehrer and Bobotas for their performances and highlighted the team’s overall depth and talent. With a strong lineup and a four-match win streak, Montoursville looks to build momentum heading into the postseason.
On the other side, Williamsport showed resilience and improvement despite the loss, with standout performances from Singh and Sponhouse. The team will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches as they continue to strive for success.
