Georgia Women’s Tennis Team Continues Dominance with Win Over Alabama
The No. 4 Georgia women’s tennis team continued their dominance in the SEC with a 4-1 victory over No. 23 Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Friday. This win extended the Bulldogs’ record to a perfect 8-0 against conference opponents and marked their 11th consecutive win.
Junior Guillermina Grant was the star of the match, clinching the victory with a singles win on court six against senior Anna Parkhomenko. Grant’s 6-4, 6-3 win not only secured the match for Georgia but also marked her fourth clinch of the season. Grant, along with doubles partner Mai Nirundorn, got the Bulldogs off to a strong start with a 6-2 victory on court two.
The duo of Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco sealed the doubles point for Georgia with a 6-4 win on court three. This gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Despite the strong performance from Georgia, the doubles match on court one between No. 16 Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova and No. 7 Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser was left unfinished with the score tied at 5-5.
In singles play, Mert and Vidmanova continued their impressive form with straight-set victories, bringing the score to 3-0 in favor of Georgia. However, Alabama fought back as Hiser defeated Reasco in consecutive sets to put the Crimson Tide on the board. Grant’s match-clinching win on court six secured the victory for the Bulldogs.
With this win, Georgia remains undefeated in SEC play and will look to continue their winning streak as they travel to Auburn for their next match. The Bulldogs will aim to maintain their perfect conference record and solidify their position as one of the top teams in the country.
