Dorchester Tennis Players Shine at Peter Cox Handicap Tournament

Dorchester tennis players turned out in numbers for the Peter Cox Handicap

Tennis enthusiasts in Dorchester came together for a day of fun and friendly competition at the Peter Cox Handicap Tennis Tournament held at the Dorchester Tennis and Squash Club (DTSC). The event, named after a former club member who valued the enjoyment of the sport above all else, saw twenty-four players of varying skill levels take part in a unique handicap scoring system.

The tournament, which was the first fully-mixed version of the Peter Cox event, featured participants being randomly paired up for three mixed doubles matches. The goal was to accumulate as many game wins as possible as individuals, with the top four scoring men and women advancing to the semi-finals.

After a day filled with intense matches and a delicious pot-luck lunch provided by all participants, the eventual winners were Sarah Skidmore and Grahame Bennett. In a thrilling final match, Skidmore and Bennett overcame an early deficit to emerge victorious with a score of 6-4 against their opponents, Rebecca Hambleton and Chris Porter.

Club and tennis chairman Al Clark expressed his delight at the turnout for the event, highlighting the recent sustainability efforts and improvements made to the club facilities. The winners were presented with the prestigious Peter Cox trophy, an engraved glass, and an Easter egg as tokens of their achievement.

The day was a true celebration of tennis, camaraderie, and community spirit at DTSC, showcasing the passion and dedication of Dorchester’s tennis players.
