Mark Williams Shifts Focus to Pool, Preferring it Over Snooker
Snooker legend Mark Williams has made a surprising revelation, announcing that he will be focusing more on pool in the coming months. The three-time world champion, who is still ranked No8 in the world, has expressed his love for the game of pool and his desire to compete in more tournaments.
Williams, who is part of the famous “Class of ’92” alongside snooker greats John Higgins and Ronnie O’Sullivan, recently competed in the Joy Cup World Heyball Masters Grand Finals in Qinhuangdao, where he was defeated by top Chinese player Zheng Yubo. Despite the loss, Williams spoke highly of the Chinese 8-Ball pool format and expressed his enjoyment of playing the game.
The Welshman, who claimed the British Open title in October, stated, “I probably enjoy playing Chinese 8 ball rather than snooker, to be honest. I just want to play more, I’d like to play more tournaments this year to see if I can get any better.” He also confirmed that he is not retiring from snooker but will be focusing more on pool in the future.
Williams’ decision to prioritize pool over snooker comes as no surprise, as he had previously predicted that more snooker players would start competing in pool tournaments. He highlighted the popularity and prize money in Chinese pool and acknowledged the high level of competition from Chinese players in the game.
As Williams prepares to return to snooker for the Tour Championship this week, fans will be eager to see how his newfound focus on pool will impact his performance on the snooker table. With his talent and experience, Williams is sure to make waves in the world of pool as he continues to pursue his passion for the game.
