Ronnie O’Sullivan Aims for Record Eighth World Snooker Championship Title: Tournament Preview and Schedule

The stage is set for the 2024 World Snooker Championship, with defending champion Luca Brecel looking to retain his title and Ronnie O’Sullivan aiming for a record eighth crown. The tournament will run from April 20 to May 6 at The Crucible in Sheffield, with the champion set to take home a whopping £500,000 in prize money.

Last year, Brecel made history by becoming the first player from mainland Europe to win snooker’s most prestigious event, defeating O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals before overcoming Mark Selby in the final. However, O’Sullivan is no stranger to success at The Crucible, having already won the championship seven times, including in 2022 to equal Stephen Hendry’s record.

The tournament format includes rounds of varying lengths, with the final being a best of 35 frames. The prize money on offer is also substantial, with the winner receiving £500,000 and £40,000 awarded for a maximum 147 break.

O’Sullivan will face tough competition from the likes of Ding Junhui, Judd Trump, and Mark Williams, who are all looking to stop the Rocket from making history. The road to the final won’t be easy, with potential matchups against Barry Hawkins, Ding Junhui, Judd Trump, and Brecel in the later stages.

With the world’s best players set to battle it out on the green baize, snooker fans can expect plenty of drama and excitement at this year’s World Snooker Championship. Stay tuned for all the action from The Crucible as the quest for snooker’s ultimate prize unfolds.
