Ronnie O’Sullivan Open to Offers from Potential Rival Snooker Tour
Seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan is making headlines once again, this time for his openness to offers from a potential rival snooker tour. The former world champion has made it clear that he will not hesitate to walk away from the sport if he feels undervalued.
O’Sullivan, who recently secured a convincing 10-1 win over Jackson Page in the first round of the World Championship in Sheffield, expressed his views on the matter, stating, “Every player has the right to do what they want to do. Each sportsman is a business, whether you like it or not, and it’s just like any other job – if you get a better offer, you’re going to go.”
The World Snooker Tour has relaxed rules on player contracts following a high-profile row last October, allowing players to compete in exhibitions as long as they do not clash directly with WST events. However, with the potential for more lucrative opportunities on the horizon, O’Sullivan is keeping his options open.
While recent deals with Saudi Arabia, including the World Masters of Snooker and an upcoming ranking event in Riyadh, have seemingly satisfied O’Sullivan for now, he made it clear that he will not hesitate to move on if he feels he is not being valued appropriately.
“The bottom line is, you’ve got to be prepared to walk away. If I didn’t get what I want, am I prepared to walk away from the sport? The answer is yes,” O’Sullivan stated. “I’m happy with my life. I don’t need the financial rewards that snooker has offered me. I’m playing because I want to play but I have a value.”
With O’Sullivan’s future in the sport potentially hanging in the balance, fans will be eagerly watching to see how this situation unfolds in the coming months.
