Four-time world champion Mark Selby threatened to quit snooker after a disappointing loss to Gary Wilson in the Tour Championship. Wilson managed to secure a 10-8 victory with a clearance of 105, but both players were critical of their own performances in Manchester.
Selby expressed his frustration, stating, “I mean I was pathetic really, from start to finish. Probably one of the worst games I’ve played as a professional. Definitely up there for sure. If I carry on playing like that, then yeah, I won’t be enjoying it and I will be choosing a different career for sure.”
Wilson, on the other hand, admitted that he was not satisfied with his performance either, saying, “I don’t know how I won to be honest. I’m just thankful Mark didn’t play very well because I was embarrassing.”
Despite their struggles, both players are determined to improve in their upcoming matches. Wilson acknowledged the need to work on his cue action, while Selby vowed to give his best in the upcoming World Championship.
In other matches, Ali Carter held off a spirited fightback from Barry Hawkins to set up a quarter-final clash with Ronnie O’Sullivan. Carter, who raced into a 7-1 lead before Hawkins mounted a comeback, expressed his excitement at facing O’Sullivan, whom he considers the best player in the game.
Meanwhile, Mark Williams produced a stunning clearance in the deciding frame to edge out Tom Ford 10-9 and advance to a quarter-final showdown with Judd Trump. Williams, who was feeling exhausted towards the end of the match, described his last-minute clearance as one of the best of his career.
The Tour Championship continues to deliver thrilling matches and unexpected outcomes, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as the competition heats up.
