John Higgins predicts end of Crucible Theatre as World Snooker Championship venue
John Higgins, a four-time World Snooker Champion, believes that the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield may no longer host the prestigious World Snooker Championship beyond 2027. Higgins, who has been a mainstay at the tournament for 30 consecutive years, expressed his deep connection to the venue after his recent victory over Jamie Jones.
In an engaging first-round match, Higgins secured a 10-6 win over Jones and is now set to face Mark Allen in the next round. Reflecting on his long history at the Crucible, Higgins emphasized the significance of the venue in his career, stating, “It means everything to me when you think what you achieved, who’s been here, my family… it’s been a massive part of my life.”
Despite his sentimental attachment to the Crucible, Higgins acknowledged the likelihood of the championship moving to a new location in the future. He shared his thoughts on the matter, saying, “It will be a shame when it leaves here… which I think it will in about three years’ time.”
Looking ahead to his upcoming match against Allen, Higgins highlighted the competitive nature of the tournament and the pressure on players to perform. He noted Allen’s strong record and position as the provisional number one in the world, but also pointed out the challenges of winning the World Championship for the first time.
