Jak Jones takes control with 13-10 lead over Stuart Bingham in World Championship semi-final

In a thrilling World Championship semi-final at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Welsh qualifier Jak Jones has taken a commanding 13-10 lead over 2015 champion Stuart Bingham.

After resuming at 8-8, Bingham initially took the first frame of the morning session. However, Jones responded with three half-century breaks, winning five consecutive frames to assert his dominance. Bingham managed to rally with a superb 104 break, but the protracted nature of the 21st frame, lasting over 50 minutes with both players taking toilet breaks, meant only seven of the scheduled eight frames were completed.

Jones, ranked 44th in the world, is on the cusp of making history as he aims to become the lowest-ranked finalist since Shaun Murphy in 2005. His impressive run includes defeating top player Judd Trump in the quarter-finals.

Bingham, on the other hand, struggled with errors and loose safety shots throughout the match. Despite a century in the final frame, he failed to find his rhythm and was heavily punished for crucial mistakes, such as missing a long green at a critical moment and running out of position in the 22nd frame.

As the oldest player in the tournament at 47, Bingham is fighting to become the oldest Crucible champion. However, he faces an uphill battle against the unfazed and determined Jones, who has capitalized on his opponent’s mistakes to take control of the match.

The semi-final clash between Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert is also underway, with Wilson holding a 14-10 lead as they head into the final session. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to determine who will advance to the prestigious Crucible final.
