Robert Milkins struggles as David Gilbert dominates in World Snooker Championship quarter-final match

In a dramatic turn of events at the World Snooker Championship, David Gilbert is on the brink of securing a spot in the quarter-finals as his opponent, Robert Milkins, struggled and even threw his cue to the ground in frustration.

Milkins, the 16th seed, found himself trailing 7-4 when he missed a crucial red, prompting him to angrily toss his cue aside as Gilbert capitalized on the opportunity to extend his lead. Gilbert, who previously defeated 2023 champion Luca Brecel in the first round, currently holds a commanding 12-4 advantage over Milkins as they head into the final session.

Former world champion John Parrott expressed surprise at Milkins’ outburst, noting that it is rare to see a player throw their cue in frustration. He remarked, “Milkins is so frustrated with his own level of performance but to throw your cue, it’s very unusual to see that.”

Meanwhile, Gilbert’s impressive form continued as he maintained his composure and capitalized on Milkins’ struggles. Ranked 31st in the world, Gilbert fought through two rounds of qualifying to reach the Crucible and has made a significant impact with his performances.

Milkins, on the other hand, described himself as a “dodgy horse” incapable of leading after narrowly defeating China’s Pang Junxu in a deciding frame. Despite his struggles, Milkins acknowledged that his win in the previous round had turned his bad season into a slightly better one.

As the tension mounts at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Gilbert looks poised to advance to the quarter-finals while Milkins faces an uphill battle to stage a comeback. With Gilbert’s impressive run of form and Milkins’ frustrations boiling over, the stage is set for an exciting conclusion to their match.
