Forest Sailing Club’s Annual Easter Regatta: Winners and Highlights
The annual Easter Regatta hosted by the Forest Sailing Club was once again a thrilling event for local sailors, as they navigated Da Gama’s waters over the Easter weekend. Despite some challenges with the weather, the sailors showcased their skills and determination throughout the three-day event.
The regatta, held from March 29 to 31, saw some tough conditions for the sailors, with poor wind leading to the cancellation of three races in the first two days. However, Sunday brought much better sailing conditions, with steady winds and pleasant weather creating the perfect setting for the final day of racing.
A total of nine races were held over the weekend, with one result being discarded for each sailor. In the end, Reece Robertson emerged as the overall winner of the regatta, with Arthur Powell and Ken Grossmith following closely behind in second and third place, respectively.
The winners in each category were also celebrated, with Ken Grossmith, Marc Derfoldy, and Anthony Theron taking the top spots in the Keeler class. In the Open class, Reece Robertson, Arthur Powell, and Kirsty Robertson claimed the top three positions, while Robbie Robertson, Meiring van der Merwe, and Hano van Rooyen were the winners in the Cat class.
The keeler boats, known for their slower pace, provided some exciting competition of their own, adding to the overall excitement of the regatta. With impressive performances from all the sailors, the Easter Regatta once again proved to be a highlight of the sailing calendar for the Forest Sailing Club.
