Restoration Efforts Underway for Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club Clubhouse
The once vibrant cafe and bar at Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club has been closed since late last year, leaving members and locals disappointed. The building, which has served as a popular spot for over 15 years, was shut down due to concerns over its deteriorating steel frame.
Terry Jones, the commodore at the sailing club, expressed the urgent need for funds to restore the clubhouse to its former glory. With over £185,000 already saved for the renovation, the club is now seeking an additional £20,000 to cover the full costs.
The clubhouse, built in the early 1970s, has been a hub for sailors and social members for decades. However, exposure to harsh weather conditions over the years has taken a toll on the structure, leading to its closure.
Members of the sailing club, which boasts a membership of over 1,000 individuals, are rallying together to raise the necessary funds. The club’s Crowdfunder page has been set up to encourage supporters to contribute to the cause.
The restoration project aims not only to preserve the building for future generations but also to enhance inclusivity, safety, and community engagement along Seaford seafront. Any surplus funds raised will be used to improve accessibility for elderly and disabled members, as well as replenish club reserves depleted by the reconstruction project.
The Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club, founded in 1952, is a beloved institution that caters to a variety of water sports enthusiasts. With the support of its members and the local community, the club is hopeful that the clubhouse will soon reopen its doors for all to enjoy once again.
