Qualified U.S. Athletes for the Olympics in Sailing
The countdown to the 2024 Paris Olympics is on, and the roster for Team USA in sailing is nearly complete. With just a few more selections to be made, let’s take a look at which U.S. athletes have already qualified for the prestigious event.
Markus Edegran will be representing the U.S. in the Men’s Formula Kite category, while Noah Lyons will be competing in the Men’s iQFoil event. Ford McCann has also secured his spot in the ILCA 7 competition. These athletes will be heading to Paris pending country qualification at the Last Chance Regatta in France from April 21-28.
In addition, Ian Barrows and Hans Henken have been nominated for the 49er category, while Daniela Moroz will be competing in the Women’s Formula Kite event. Erika Reineke will represent the U.S. in the ILCA 6 competition, and Dominique Stater will be competing in the Women’s iQFoil category. Stu McNay and Lara Dallman-Weiss will be competing in the Mixed 470 event.
One of the most anticipated selections is for the 49erFX category, where Stephanie Roble and Maggie Shea, both Tokyo Olympians, have secured a quota spot for the United States. They will be competing against other strong contenders, including Rio 2016 Olympian Paris Henken and Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias, a two-time Olympian who won gold in the Laser Radial class in 2008.
The Narca 17 spot is still up for grabs, with Sarah Newberry Moore and David Liebenberg, as well as Carson Crain and Lindsay Gimple, vying for the opportunity to represent the United States in Paris. The final decision will be made based on the team with the lowest combined series score from the 2024 Princess Sofia Regatta and the 2024 Narca 17 World Championships.
As the excitement builds for the upcoming Olympics, all eyes will be on these talented U.S. athletes as they prepare to compete on the world stage in sailing.
