Nethra Kumanan Secures India’s Second Paris 2024 Olympics Quota in Sailing
Nethra Kumanan, the talented Indian sailor, has once again made her mark on the international stage by securing India’s second Paris 2024 Olympics quota in sailing. Competing in the women’s dinghy (ILCA 6) at the Last Chance Regatta in Hyeres, France, Kumanan’s fifth-place finish earned her country a ticket to the Olympics.
Despite scoring 67 points in the overall leaderboard, Kumanan’s performance as the top performer among all sailors from the Emerging Nations Program (ENP) who were yet to secure a quota, was commendable. This achievement highlights her determination and skill in the sport.
The Last Chance Regatta was a crucial event for sailors to secure their 2024 Olympics quota, and Kumanan seized the opportunity with her impressive performance. With only 17 Indian sailors in action during the event, Kumanan stood out by finishing in the top 10 and securing the coveted quota for India.
Kumanan, who represented India at the Tokyo Olympics, has been a consistent performer in international sailing events. Despite missing out on an Olympic quota at previous competitions, she continued to strive for success and finally achieved her goal at the Last Chance Regatta.
This achievement adds to India’s growing presence in the sailing world, with Tokyo Olympian Vishnu Saravanan securing the country’s first sailing quota for the 2024 Olympics earlier this year. Kumanan’s success is a testament to her hard work and dedication to the sport, and she is set to make India proud at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
