Young British Kiteboarder Reflects on Sixth Place Finish in Spain
Young Kiteboarder Finishes Sixth in Mar Menor, Spain
The 25-year-old kiteboarder from Weymouth, England, put on an impressive performance at the recent event in Mar Menor, Spain, finishing in sixth place. Despite narrowly missing out on matching her fourth-place finish from last year, she expressed her pride in her sailing throughout the challenging week.
“It was really tough and the French girls brought their A game,” she said. “It was their Olympic trials, so I knew they would be tough competition. They were untouchable throughout the week, but I did my best to defend my position and finish strong.”
Coming off a six-month training block, the young athlete was focused on honing her skills and tactics ahead of the upcoming World Championships. She saw the European event as a valuable opportunity to test herself against top competition and make necessary adjustments for the future.
Young was joined by two other British boats in the top 10, with Ellie Aldridge finishing fifth and Katie Dabson in ninth place. The British contingent was determined to push for more success and close the gap on the dominant French team.
“We were a little disappointed not to place higher, but it only fuels our hunger to improve and challenge the top competitors,” Dabson commented. “We will analyze our performance and work on closing the gap in the upcoming events.”
