British Sailing Partnership Sets Sights on Future Success
The new British Sailing partnership of Hawes and Grummett has made quite the splash in the sailing world, punching above their weight at the recent 49er event. Despite only teaming up in December, the duo clicked straight away and their success has left them hungry for more.
Reflecting on their performance at the Worlds, Hawes expressed confidence in their potential, stating, “It wasn’t a polished finished product we were bringing into that event, which is nice because I know we’ve got more to give.” With their eyes set on the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Palma, the pair is eager to recapture the magic that led them to success at the Worlds.
While last year saw them racing in separate boats with Olympic selection places at stake, this year they are fully focused on honing their craft ahead of the European Championships in May. Despite the external pressure and expectations, Hawes emphasized the importance of racing with freedom and not letting the pressure influence their performance.
Looking ahead to the next Olympic cycle, Hawes and Grummett are already planning for the long term, with their sights set on LA 2028. With a five-year project in mind, the duo is committed to strengthening their foundations and pushing forward in their quest for Olympic success.
As they continue their journey, fans can follow the British Sailing Team on Instagram at @britishsailing for updates on their progress and future competitions. With their determination and talent, Hawes and Grummett are certainly ones to watch in the sailing world.
