57th Camellia Cup Regatta Recap: Laser Fleet Shines on Folsom Lake

The 57th Camellia Cup regatta at Folsom Lake was a spectacle of skill and determination as sailors from across California battled it out on the water. The Laser class stole the show, with San Francisco’s Elliot Drake emerging victorious after a fierce competition.

Drake showcased his sailing prowess by posting two first-place finishes in moderate to light breezes, solidifying his lead in the Laser fleet. Despite facing challenging conditions that ranged from 10 knots to dead calm, Drake’s expertise shone through as he navigated the waters with precision.

Not far behind was San Jose’s Toshinari Takayanagi, who put up a valiant effort and clinched second place in the first two races. However, it was Drake who ultimately claimed the top spot, leaving Takayanagi to settle for a close second.

In the keelboat division, FLYC’s Gary Preston of Sacramento emerged victorious, showcasing strategic sailing tactics that led him to success. Meanwhile, Granite Bay’s Jon Kim dominated the Multihull class, sailing his Corsair F24 with ease.

The Camellia Cup regatta was a true test of skill and determination, with sailors from various clubs showcasing their talent on the water. Despite challenging conditions and unexpected course changes, the competitors rose to the occasion and delivered an exciting display of sailing prowess.
