America’s Cup Launches Official Simulation Video Game and E-Sports World Championship

The America’s Cup, the oldest trophy in international sports, is making waves in the virtual world with the launch of its official simulation video game, AC Sailing, and the introduction of the America’s Cup E-series, its first-ever e-sports world championship.

AC Sailing, developed by Emirates Team New Zealand, utilizes the same physics engine as the simulators used by America’s Cup teams for training. This game allows players to experience the thrill of America’s Cup sailing by taking command of the foiling AC40 yachts and competing in online races, time trials, and practice modes. With real-world locations like Barcelona and authentic liveries from the iconic AC40 yachts, players can immerse themselves in the world of competitive sailing.

Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Event, expressed excitement about bringing the legacy of innovation into the virtual world, enhancing the role of sailing in the e-sports ecosystem. The game’s mechanics have been designed to replicate real-life sailing experiences, with tutorials and aids to help players improve their skills and potentially qualify for the America’s Cup E-series.

The America’s Cup E-series will feature Online Qualifiers and a Grand Final in Barcelona in September, offering players from around the world the chance to race against each other and compete for a spot among the America’s Cup legends. The E-series presents a new pathway to the oldest yachting competition, with the potential for top AC Sailing players to transition from virtual racing to real-life competition.

As the excitement builds for the 37th America’s Cup in 2024, teams like INEOS Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, NYYC American Magic, and Orient Express Racing Team are gearing up to challenge defender Emirates Team New Zealand. Preliminary regattas and the Challenger Selection Series will lead up to the main event in October 2024, where the best of the best will compete for the prestigious trophy.

With the convergence of virtual and real-life sailing, the America’s Cup is embracing innovation and engaging a new generation of fans and competitors. Stay tuned for more updates and action-packed racing in the world of AC Sailing and the America’s Cup E-series.
