Australia’s Sailing Contingent Bolstered by Five New Representatives for Paris Olympics

Australia’s sailing team for the upcoming Paris Olympics has received a significant boost with the addition of five new representatives, including four fresh faces eager to make their mark on the international stage.

Currently training in France near the competition course at Marseilles, Tokyo Olympian Nia Jerwood has been named alongside Conor Nicholas to compete in the new mixed-470 event. The duo, both 26 years old and hailing from Western Australia, are excited to team up and showcase their competitive drive in this new category.

Joining them in their Olympic debut are Zoe Thomson, who will be competing in the ILCA-6, and Nacra-17 sailors Brin Liddell and Rhiannan Brown. The young duo, aged 21, have shown remarkable progress in recent months under the guidance of coach Darren Bundock, a dual Olympic medallist.

With these new additions, Australia’s Games sailing squad now stands at 12 members, including previously selected athletes such as Breianna Whitehead, Matt Wearn, and Olivia Price. The team is gearing up for the Olympics with rigorous training and participation in major regattas to acclimatize to the conditions at Marseilles.

Australian Olympic Team Chef de Mission Anna Meares commended the athletes on their selection, praising their passion, commitment, and talent. She expressed confidence in their ability to make Australia proud on the Olympic stage.

As the countdown to the Paris Olympics continues, all eyes will be on Australia’s sailing contingent as they aim to sail their way to success and bring home medals for their country.
