Shandon Sailor Anna Burnet Secures Bronze at Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta
Shandon sailor Anna Burnet, alongside her partner John Gimson, clinched the bronze medal in the Nacra 17 mixed multi-hull class at the prestigious Princess Sofia Trophy regatta in Mallorca. The event, which took place between March 29 and April 6, saw the British duo put on a stellar performance to secure a podium finish.
Despite facing tough competition from the Italian pairs Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti, who claimed the gold, and Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei, who took home the silver, Burnet and Gimson showed great determination and skill throughout the regatta.
With the Tokyo Olympics on the horizon, where Tita and Banti are considered the favorites to win gold, Burnet remains optimistic about her chances. The Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club member expressed her confidence in her abilities, stating that she and Gimson are fully capable of aiming for the top spot on the podium in Marseille this summer.
In addition to Burnet’s success, fellow RNCYC member Lorenzo Chiavarini also competed at the event in Palma, showcasing his talent in the ILCA7 dinghy class. Despite finishing in 23rd place, Chiavarini remains focused on his upcoming Olympic debut representing Italy.
Both Burnet and Chiavarini have demonstrated their dedication and passion for sailing, with their sights set on achieving success at the highest level. As they continue to train and prepare for the Olympics, their determination and resilience will undoubtedly be key factors in their quest for glory on the water.
