Texas A&M Sailing Team Hosts Annual Alumni Regatta at Lake Bryan
The Texas A&M sailing team set sail on Lake Bryan for their annual Alumni Regatta, showcasing a blend of competition, nostalgia, and a shared love for sailing. Despite challenging weather conditions with gusty winds, nine boats manned by current team members and alumni raced against each other, creating an exhilarating atmosphere on the water.
The event served as a fundraiser for the sailing team, which has a rich history dating back to 1968. With five conference regattas already under their belt this season, the team was eager to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.
Team president Cole Broberg highlighted the excitement of having seasoned alumni return to compete, adding an extra layer of intensity to the races. Former student Sarah Turner, a member of the Class of 2015, expressed her optimism after winning the last couple of races, reminiscing about her first Regatta as a student and the camaraderie she shared with her teammates.
Spectator Taylor Knudsen, there to support her boyfriend, marveled at the team’s dynamics and the joyous atmosphere of the event. Safety and fun were top priorities for Knudsen, who found the experience both entertaining and fascinating.
Looking ahead, the sailing team is gearing up for the 2024 SailPack Oriental Intercollegiate regional competition, hosted by North Carolina State in April. With their passion for sailing and strong sense of camaraderie, the Texas A&M sailing team is poised for success both on and off the water.
