Iwan Thomas Sailing Solo Home to Pembrokeshire: Delivering Clean Drinking Water to Remote Islands
Iwan Thomas, a resident of Templeton who now resides in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, is embarking on an incredible journey that combines his passion for sailing with a noble cause. Four years ago, he purchased a Westsail 32 yacht in New Zealand and named it Betty in honor of his Pembrokeshire grandmother.
Living aboard his yacht, Iwan has been teaching himself to sail through online resources, books, and the help of friends. He even changed careers to work in boat repair, allowing him to learn the necessary skills for his upcoming solo sail back to Pembrokeshire.
Next month, Iwan will set off on a two-year voyage home, during which he plans to deliver Cleansip straws to remote islands lacking access to clean drinking water. These small water filters can make a significant impact in communities facing water scarcity and health issues.
“I hope to take 500 Cleansip filters with me on my journey, starting with Fiji where many people still lack access to safe drinking water,” Iwan shared. To fund this mission, he has set up a gofundme page where every donation will go towards purchasing the filters.
If you would like to support Iwan in his mission to provide clean drinking water to remote islands, you can donate to his gofundme page or follow his journey on Instagram and Facebook. Iwan’s dedication to both sailing and humanitarian efforts is truly inspiring, and his voyage is sure to make a positive impact on the communities he visits.
