Dwayne Peel confident in Scarlets board support despite season struggles
The Scarlets are facing a challenging season, with their recent 45-3 thrashing by Glasgow marking a new low for the team. Despite this, head coach Dwayne Peel remains confident in the backing of the board, citing positive upcoming appointments that will allow him more time to focus on coaching.
Peel, who signed a new contract that will keep him at Parc y Scarlets until at least the 2024-25 season, has been under scrutiny as the team struggles to find success on the field. With just three wins in 17 games across all competitions, the Scarlets have hired an external public relations consultant to work with Peel and address the negativity surrounding the team.
The club’s disappointing performance this season comes as a surprise, given the modest optimism that followed the signings of Ioan Lloyd and Taine Plumtree last summer. However, results and performances have not lived up to expectations, with the Scarlets conceding 40 points or more eight times and scoring the fewest points and tries in the United Rugby Championship.
In response to the team’s struggles, the Scarlets have announced plans to make four new senior appointments aimed at driving future success and sustainability. These appointments include a rugby performance director and a head of development, with names like Simon Easterby and Dai Young being linked to the roles.
Despite the challenges facing the Scarlets, executive chairman Simon Muderack remains optimistic about the future, stating that the new leadership appointments will help the team overcome current challenges both on and off the field. As the team looks to turn their season around, all eyes will be on Peel and the new appointments to see if they can lead the Scarlets to success.
