Saracens Clinch Allianz Cup with Victory over Bristol Bears
Saracens emerged victorious in a thrilling Allianz Cup final against Bristol Bears, showcasing a clinical second-half performance to secure a 26-14 win at Shaftesbury Park.
The match started with Bristol Bears taking an early lead, with Deborah Wills scoring two tries to put the home side ahead 12-7 at halftime. However, Saracens came out strong in the second half, with captain Lotte Clapp scoring a crucial try to level the game.
Bryony Field then put Saracens in front, but Bristol Bears fought back with a try from Ella Lovibond. Saracens, determined to claim the trophy, responded with tries from Bryony Cleall and May Campbell in the final quarter to seal the victory.
This win marks Saracens’ first Allianz Cup trophy success, a sweet redemption after being defeated by Exeter Chiefs in last year’s final. The team’s flanker, Sharifa Kasolo, was named player of the match for her outstanding performance on the field.
“We went in at halftime and really just wanted to come out composed and do things for each other,” said Kasolo. “A lot of what we’ve been working on is supporting each other in our carries and tackles, and that’s what really gave us that edge today.”
In other matches, Gloucester-Hartpury claimed third place by beating Exeter Chiefs 26-14, while Loughborough Lightning defeated Sale Sharks 26-22 to finish fifth. Trailfinders Women also secured a victory over Harlequins to finish seventh in the tournament.
Saracens’ triumph in the Allianz Cup final cements their status as a dominant force in women’s rugby, and they will be looking to build on this success in the upcoming season.
