Rugby Roundup: Bordeaux, Exeter, and Leinster Secure Wins in Champions Cup

Bordeaux put on a dominant display as they scored six tries to beat Saracens 45-12 in the Champions Cup, setting up a home quarter-final against Harlequins next weekend. The French side showcased their attacking prowess, with fly-half Mateo Garcia scoring two tries to lead his team to victory.

Despite being denied five first-half tries by TMO and assistant referee decisions, Bordeaux remained composed and focused on their game plan. Maxime Lucu opened the scoring with a penalty, and the team never looked back. The visitors, Saracens, struggled to keep up and lost lock Maro Itoje to a yellow card, allowing Bordeaux to capitalize and score their first try of the game.

Bordeaux’s No 8 Tevita Tatafu and fly-half Garcia continued to impress, with Garcia completing his brace of tries and setting up his teammates for more scores. The home side’s scrum power proved to be too much for Saracens, as they dominated the set pieces and controlled the game.

In another Champions Cup match, Exeter secured their spot in the quarter-finals by defeating Bath 21-15 at Sandy Park. Despite losing fly-half Finn Russell to injury early in the game, Exeter fought back and scored crucial tries to seal the win.

Leinster also booked their place in the last eight with a 36-22 victory over Leicester at the Aviva Stadium. The Irish side displayed a strong performance, with Jamison Gibson-Park scoring a hat-trick of tries to lead his team to victory.

Overall, it was an action-packed weekend of rugby, with Bordeaux, Exeter, and Leinster all advancing to the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup. Fans can look forward to more exciting matches as the competition heats up.
