Leinster Announce Signing of All Blacks Back Jordie Barrett for Next Season
Leinster Rugby has made a major splash in the transfer market with the announcement of the signing of New Zealand international back Jordie Barrett for next season. The Irish province has been on a recruitment drive, already securing the services of Springbok second row RG Snyman from rivals Munster.
Barrett, who has won 57 caps for the All Blacks and can play at centre, full-back, and fly-half, will join Leinster in December on a short-term deal that will run until the end of next season. The 27-year-old has family connections with Leinster and County Meath, making this move a special one for him.
In a statement, Barrett expressed his excitement about the move, saying, “Ireland is a special place for the Barrett family. We’ve got so many great family connections in Oldcastle, in County Meath and throughout Dublin. To have an opportunity to go back and meet some family and friends and connections that were made 20 years ago is pretty cool.”
Leinster head coach Leo Cullen also expressed his delight at securing Barrett’s signature, praising the All Black’s skill-set and experience at the highest level of the game. Barrett has been in fine form for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby Pacific, leading the team to the top of the table with seven wins from seven matches.
With the addition of Barrett and Snyman to their squad, Leinster looks set to be a formidable force in the upcoming season. The Irish province now boasts nine players centrally contracted to the IRFU, further strengthening their depth and quality across the board. Rugby fans can look forward to seeing Barrett in action for Leinster as he brings his world-class talent to the Pro14 competition.
