Ireland women’s rugby coach confident wins are on the horizon
Ireland Women’s Six Nations team may have started the 2024 campaign with two defeats, but head coach Scott Bemand remains confident that his side is on the right track.
After losing all five games last year, Ireland suffered defeats against France and Italy in the opening matches of this year’s tournament. However, Bemand believes that his team is making progress and is not far away from securing their first win.
“We won’t ever shy away, we talk about winning,” Bemand said. “We’re really comfortable with that. Going away to France, it was always going to be a tough start, but we saw some green shoots and emergence of character and resilience.”
Despite the setback against Italy, Bemand praised his team’s performance and highlighted the leadership within the squad. He dismissed any suggestions of a lack of leadership, emphasizing the development and growth of his players.
“We’ve got some unbelievable leaders in our group,” Bemand stated. “The game looks different now to what it used to. They are already at a level which is beyond their years.”
With full-back Lauren Delany recovering from injury, Ireland will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming match against Wales. Bemand remains optimistic about his team’s chances and is confident that they are heading in the right direction.
Ireland will continue to work hard and strive for their first victory in the Women’s Six Nations, with Bemand leading the way with belief and determination.
