Ireland Women’s Six Nations: Disappointment for Ireland as Italy claim victory

Ireland’s Women’s Six Nations team suffered a heartbreaking 21-27 defeat at the hands of Italy, leaving head coach Scott Bemand frustrated with his team’s lack of clinical accuracy on the field. Despite a valiant late fightback, Ireland fell short and had to settle for a losing bonus point in front of a record crowd at the RDS.

Bemand expressed his disappointment, highlighting the missed opportunities and lack of execution when it mattered most. The team struggled to capitalize on possession and territory, allowing Italy to take control of the game and build a commanding lead.

Ireland managed to score through a penalty try and a late Katie Corrigan try, but it was not enough to overcome Italy’s strong performance. Captain Sam Monaghan, who returned from injury for the match, acknowledged the team’s disappointment and emphasized the need to improve their composure in key moments.

The loss marked Ireland’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, following a 38-17 loss to France in the opener. With their sights set on securing their first Six Nations win since 2022, the team will look to address their handling errors and discipline ahead of their upcoming match against Wales on 13 April.

Despite the setback, Bemand remains optimistic about his team’s potential, vowing to continue firing shots and improving their performance in the remaining matches of the tournament. Ireland’s journey to redemption continues as they strive to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed victory in the Women’s Six Nations.
