Their dominance was evident throughout the season, with a points difference of +452, a staggering 70 points ahead of their closest rivals.
Despite losing just twice, Colchester faced tough competition from Sudbury, who went on an impressive 15-match unbeaten run after a shaky start to the season. With their strong finish, Sudbury looks poised to challenge for the title next season.
Colchester’s success can be attributed to their exceptional performance both at home and on the road. They were unbeaten at home and had the highest points scored and fewest points conceded in away matches. Their try-scoring prowess was unmatched, with an average of 6.3 tries per match and a total of 138 tries for the season.
Front row forward Francois Rossouw emerged as the leading try-scorer for both Colchester and the league, with an impressive 23 tries to his name. Rossouw’s transition from centre to hooker proved to be a game-changer, earning him praise from head coach Craig Burrows.
In addition to Rossouw, players like Jimmy Mpailane, Jonah Varela, Danny Whiteman, and Dylan Read also made significant contributions to Colchester’s try-scoring success. Fly-half Jayden Boshoff was the leading points-scorer, showcasing his kicking prowess with 78 conversions and a total of 162 points.
Colchester’s attacking mindset, focused on scoring tries rather than penalty goals, has been a key factor in their success. As they look ahead to the next season, fans can expect more thrilling performances and entertaining rugby from this talented team.
