2024 Capital Rugby Union Season Kicks Off with Meet and Greet Event
The 2024 rugby union season in Papua New Guinea kicked off with a bang as Capital Rugby Union (CRU) hosted its first meet and greet event at the KPMG Terrace in Port Moresby. Representatives from all ten teams attended the launch event, which celebrated CRU’s rich legacy and commitment to excellence in rugby and its communities.
With major co-sponsors Pepsi and Moni Plus on board, alongside NiuPower supporting the CRU Women’s teams, the season is set to be a thrilling one. CRU, the largest and oldest provincial rugby union body in the country, is known for its sporting prowess, community engagement, and inclusivity.
Established in the 1960s, CRU has become a powerhouse in PNG rugby with a vision to be the best community rugby association in the country. The organization is dedicated to providing players of all levels and ages with a pathway to success, both on and off the field, guided by core values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, and respect.
President of CRU, Kori Chan, emphasized the organization’s commitment to increasing participation and awareness of rugby union while fostering a culture of inclusivity and sportsmanship within the community. CRU will roll out training and mentoring programs in 2024 to empower players, coaches, and officials, ensuring off-field growth and personal development.
In a groundbreaking move, CRU will launch the inaugural CRU Women’s Competition in 2024, promoting gender equality and inclusivity in rugby.
