Leeds prop Izzy Northrop scores hat-trick as defending champions continue perfect start
Leeds prop Izzy Northrop took her Super League career try tally to nine with her first hat-trick in a dominant 68-0 win over Warrington, solidifying Leeds Rhinos’ perfect start to the new Women’s Super League season.
Northrop, who also set up Caitlin Beevers for the game’s opening try, was instrumental in the Rhinos’ commanding victory. Amy Hardcastle, Lucy Murray, and Evie Cousins added to Northrop’s first-half brace as Leeds went into halftime with a comfortable 36-0 lead.
Despite injuries to Kaiya Glynn and Jasmine Cudjoe, Leeds continued their momentum in the second half. Jenna Greening, Shona Hoyle, Ruby Enright, Tara Moxon, and Hardcastle all contributed to the 13-try win, with Enright landing eight goals.
In other matches, defending champions York Valkyrie and Wigan Warriors also maintained their perfect starts to the season with impressive wins. York defeated Barrow 28-8, with Emma Kershaw scoring four tries in the first half to secure the victory.
Wigan Warriors dominated Featherstone with a 54-12 win, led by Isabel Rowe’s hat-trick and flawless kicking from Emma Knowles, who converted all nine tries.
St Helens also secured their first win of the campaign with a resounding 60-6 victory over Huddersfield, with Leah Burke scoring four tries to lead the Saints to victory.
The Women’s Super League season is off to an exciting start, with Leeds, York, Wigan, and St Helens setting the early pace with impressive performances in the second round of matches. Fans can expect more thrilling action as the season progresses.
