Wigan wheelchair coach aims for global success in European Wheelchair Rugby League Club Championship
Wigan Warriors Wheelchair Rugby League team is gearing up for a showdown with French champions Catalans Dragons in the European Wheelchair Rugby League Club Championship this Saturday. Coach Chris Greenhalgh is hoping his team can follow in the footsteps of the men’s team, who recently won the World Club Challenge.
Greenhalgh expressed the magnitude of the upcoming match, stating, “As a team and for the club, this is massive.” The Warriors, who claimed the Wheelchair Super League title last season, are eager to prove themselves on the global stage.
The Warriors will rely on captain Declan Roberts, who was named player of the match in the Grand Final win. Greenhalgh praised Roberts, calling him the most creative playmaker in the country and highlighting his leadership and rugby intelligence.
The team will also look to other key players such as Adam Rigby, Martin Lane, and Matt Wooloff to secure a victory against the formidable Catalans Dragons. Despite being considered underdogs, the Warriors are determined to put up a strong fight.
Catalans Dragons, boasting a lineup of talented players including Golden Boot winner Jeremy Bourson and England World Cup winner Seb Bechara, will provide a tough challenge for the Warriors. However, Greenhalgh is confident in his team’s abilities and is looking forward to the exciting matchup.
With the addition of Roberts’ younger brother Nathan to the squad, there is a possibility of a family trio taking the court together, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game. The Warriors are prepared to face the intense competition and are eager to showcase their skills on the European stage.
