BBC Super League Fixtures Announced for May and June
Rugby league fans can mark their calendars for the next two live BBC Super League fixtures, set to air in May and June. The excitement kicks off on Friday, May 10, when Leigh Leopards take on Salford Red Devils on BBC Three at 8.05pm. Then, on Saturday, June 1, BBC Two will broadcast the clash between Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers at 5.30pm.
This new coverage on the BBC began with the champions Wigan Warriors defending their title against Castleford Tigers on February 17, marking the first-ever live Super League match on the BBC. Moving forward, up to 15 Super League matches will be covered in each of the next three seasons across digital and linear channels. Additionally, two matches in the play-offs will be aired live on BBC TV for the first time in September and October, with a total of ten matches expected to be on TV and five more available on BBC Sport Online or the BBC iPlayer.
Rhodri Jones, Managing Director for Rugby League Commercial, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “This is a landmark agreement for Rugby League. Securing live free to air coverage on the BBC for the Super League competition means there will be more visibility than ever before.” The agreement also includes coverage of the Challenge Cup for the next three years, showcasing the sport’s inclusivity with coverage of the Women’s and Wheelchair competitions.
With the platform set for players to showcase their skills and passion, rugby league fans can look forward to more thrilling matches both in the stadiums and from the comfort of their homes.
