Community Football Returns: Weekend Wrap-Up Across the State
Community football made a triumphant return to various regions across the state over the weekend, despite some season openings being washed away by rain. While weather conditions forced the postponement of games in many areas, there were still plenty of exciting matches that took place.
In Group 4 action, defending premiers North Tamworth kicked off their season with a convincing 28-10 victory over Boggabri. The Bears were able to capitalize on a crucial send-off to secure the win and start their title defense on a positive note. Meanwhile, Kootingal Moonbi also had a strong start to their season with a 54-22 win over Narrabri, thanks to standout performances from Anders Glew and Brayden Jerrard.
Over in Group 19, Armidale pulled off a surprising 30-28 victory over Moree, marking a significant turnaround from their last-place finish last season. Warialda also impressed with a hard-fought 28-22 win against Tingha, led by a stellar performance from Garry Prince.
In Group 20, Griffith Black and Whites made a statement with a dominant 60-0 win over Yanco Wamoon, fueled by a hat-trick from fullback Solomona Toru. Darlington Point Coleambally also started their season on a high note with a 30-12 victory over Yenda, highlighted by a double from Guy Thompson.
Additionally, Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo United kicked off the women’s season with a 28-12 win over Hay, led by a standout performance from Madison Morris.
