In a thrilling showdown between Townsville’s top schoolboy rugby league teams, Ryan Catholic College emerged victorious over their cross-town rivals Southern Cross, solidifying their position at the top of the Blackhawks Trophy standings.
The day started with high emotions as both schools battled it out in the under-13s and under-15s divisions, with Southern Cross narrowly taking the under-13s match and Ryan claiming victory in the under-15s. The stage was set for an intense clash between the two schools.
Southern Cross faced early setbacks with the loss of forward leader Sebastian Richards to injury and found themselves trailing 10-0 within the first eight minutes of the game. Ryan Catholic College displayed exceptional defensive prowess, thwarting Southern Cross’s attacking efforts and capitalizing on their own opportunities to extend their lead.

In another exciting match-up, All Souls St Gabriel’s School triumphed over Blackheath Thornburgh College in a physical and passionate battle. Forward trio Hunter McKellar, Gilbert Bethel, and Mickey Luke led All Souls to a hard-fought 16-10 victory, with Bethel scoring a remarkable solo try.
