Weekend Roundup: Woolston Rovers and Latchford Albion Suffer Defeats

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for local rugby league teams as Woolston Rovers and Latchford Albion both suffered defeats in their respective matches.

Soap, also known as Crosfields, managed to salvage a point from their game against Yorkshire opponents after coming from behind to draw 18-18. A late try from Nathan Taylor and a near-miss conversion from Brad Stanway saw them secure a hard-fought draw. Stanway, along with Joe Barnes and Tom Brown, also contributed tries in the closely contested match.

Crosfields head coach Rob Campbell praised his team’s resilience and determination, highlighting their never-say-die attitude that earned them a valuable point. Despite the tough battle, Campbell is already looking ahead to their next challenge against winless Hull Dockers.

On the other hand, Woolston Rovers suffered a 26-10 defeat at the hands of Wigan St Patricks, marking their first home loss of the season. A red card for Lewis Dawson further compounded their woes, as they struggled to overcome their numerical disadvantage. Despite a late try from Dan Fearnley, Rovers were unable to mount a successful comeback.

Looking ahead, Woolston head coach Billy Sheen emphasized the need for his team to capitalize on crucial moments and start dominating games. With a tough fixture against Leigh Miners Rangers on the horizon, Sheen is hopeful that his side can turn their fortunes around and start clinching victories in tight contests.

Meanwhile, Latchford Albion put up a spirited performance in a narrow 7-6 defeat against Heysham Atoms. Despite falling short on the scoreboard, head coach Martyn Ellis commended his young and inexperienced squad for their efforts. With a focus on player development and building confidence, Latchford will be aiming to bounce back in their upcoming clash against Ashton Bears.

As the season progresses, both Woolston Rovers and Latchford Albion will be looking to regroup and bounce back stronger in their pursuit of success in the league standings.
