Weekend Cricket Roundup: Highs and Lows in Premier Division Matches

Oxenhope faced a tough challenge as they were asked to bat first and could only manage a total of 151, with Alex Baker being the only batsman to pass 30 as Taufeeq Ahmed shone with the ball, taking an impressive 5-38.

In response, Taufeeq Ahmed’s bowling performance was matched by the home team, as only Ian Shaw managed to score more than 20 runs in their total of 102, with four bowlers sharing the wickets.

The Premier Division saw a stark contrast in performances over the weekend, with Triangle scoring a massive 435-7 against Sowerby Bridge, while Shelf Northowram Hedge Top were rolled over for just 48 by SBCI.

Christian Silkstone was the star of the show for Triangle, smashing 175 runs in just 64 balls, including an incredible 19 sixes. Liam Turner and Kurtis Whippey also contributed to the carnage as Razwan Saghir picked up 4 wickets.

Meanwhile, defending champions Thornton started their season with a win, restricting Copley to 121 with Bradley Weatherhead taking 5 wickets. Nikki Hutchinson’s steady innings of 29 helped Thornton secure a five-wicket victory.

In the First Division, Great Horton Park Chapel narrowly defeated Blackley by one wicket in a low-scoring affair, with Finn Murphy top-scoring with 45. Richard Winn’s unbeaten 20 guided Horton to an unlikely win.

Low Moor Holy Trinity also emerged victorious in a low-scoring match against Greetland, with Matthew Jordan and Michael Hustler wreaking havoc with the ball.

Promotion favorites Clayton kicked off their season with a win over Mytholmroyd, with Michael Nicholson and Andrew Deegan impressing with bat and ball respectively.

Despite damp conditions, Bridgeholme and Sowerby St Peter’s managed to secure wins in the Second Division, showcasing their resilience in adverse weather conditions.
