North Queensland Sports Carnival Offers Record $20,000 Cash Prize
The stakes have never been higher for a sports carnival in North Queensland, as organizers have announced a record-breaking cash prize of $20,000 up for grabs. Scheduled to coincide with the NRL grand final weekend on October 5-6, teams from all footy codes are being challenged to come and compete for the jackpot.
Tournament director Mitchell Doyle expressed his excitement about the event, stating that this prize money is the most lucrative ever seen in North Queensland for an end-of-year sporting event. He hopes to attract top competitors from all over the region, including places like Charters Towers, Mount Isa, and Cairns.
The tournament will feature two tiered men’s divisions and an open women’s division, with additional cash prizes for the male and female players of the tournament and top try scorers. Doyle emphasized the inclusive nature of the 9s format, encouraging players from rugby union or AFL to give rugby league a try in a fun and competitive setting.
With $10,000 up for grabs for the first-place men’s team, and $5,000 for the winning women’s team, the competition is sure to be fierce. The event will also feature food trucks, music, and a festival vibe at the Townsville Brothers Rugby League Club’s Jack Manski Oval.
NRL star Kyle Feldt, along with Queensland Cup legends Kalifa Faifai-Loa and Shaun Nona, have signed on as event ambassadors, adding to the excitement surrounding the tournament. Registrations open on May 20, and more information can be found on the tournament’s website.
Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this historic sporting event and potentially walk away with a share of the $20,000 prize pool. It’s shaping up to be a weekend of fierce competition and family-friendly fun in Townsville.
