South Sydney Coach Jason Demetriou Safe in Head Coaching Position for Now
South Sydney coach Jason Demetriou can breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now, as the Rabbitohs have decided to stick with him despite their struggles at the bottom of the NRL ladder.
The decision comes after a tough start to the season, with the Bunnies managing just one win in their first six games. However, their performance against Cronulla showed enough promise to convince club officials to give Demetriou more time to turn things around.
With a bye in round seven followed by tough matchups against Melbourne and Penrith, the Rabbitohs are hoping that Demetriou can rally the team and start climbing up the ladder.
The possibility of bringing in Mal Meninga as a caretaker coach has been put on hold for now, as the team showed resilience in their recent game despite being reduced to 14 players for a significant portion of the match.
Demetriou, when asked about his job security, remained optimistic, stating, “I expect so yeah, nobody’s told me otherwise, so we’ll review the game turn up, if not, we’ll find out. You know, it’s not ideal, don’t get me wrong, you don’t want to be going through this but the reality is it’s elite sport. We’re a huge club.”
South Sydney CEO Blake Solly praised the team’s performance against Cronulla, highlighting their character and resilience in difficult circumstances. He emphasized that there is always room for improvement but acknowledged that the team showed exactly what was needed to support Demetriou.
As the Rabbitohs look to bounce back from their slow start to the season, all eyes will be on Demetriou to see if he can lead the team to success in the coming weeks.
