Exciting Launch of Tigers Trytime Program for People with Disabilities on the Central Coast
The Central Coast is gearing up for an exciting rugby league season, but there is another special initiative on the horizon that is set to make a big impact in the community.
The Entrance Rugby League club is launching its Tigers Trytime program on Monday, giving individuals with disabilities the chance to experience the thrill of playing rugby league. The 10-week program is open to people of all ages and skill levels, with sessions running for one hour each week at Edsacc Oval starting on April 8th.
Coaches Laurie Weir and Kyle Whiteford, both NRL-accredited coaches with The Entrance, are excited to bring this program to life. “It’s primarily about having fun,” Weir said. “People with disabilities love football, they watch it on TV and they’ve all got favourite teams, so part of it is being able to give them the fun, enjoyment and excitement involved in it.”
The program will focus on teaching basic skills such as passing and will include non-contact games like Oztag. The goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for participants to learn and enjoy the game of rugby league.
The success of a recent ‘come and try’ day confirmed the interest in the program, with participants having a blast on the field. The support of the community is also evident, with The Entrance Leagues Club funding the program and providing refreshments for carers and parents during the sessions.
Overall, the Tigers Trytime program is not just about playing rugby league, but also about building a sense of community and providing a much-needed respite for carers. It’s a fantastic initiative that is sure to make a positive impact on the lives of those involved.
